The 31st of May 2025 was the day of the sixth edition of Choirs Night in Ruda Śląska, where Krakofonia performed for the third time – it looks like by now, this event has become a constant in our calendar! We are always happy to go to Ruda Śląska to show wider audiences – not necessarily LGBTQ+ ones – that just like other choirs or singing ensembles, our rainbow choir is, first and foremost, a community of people who love singing together. Simple as that.
Our first outing was a joint performance with twenty-odd other groups at the main market square (plac Jana Pawła II), where the event officially opened. Following that, we moved to the Stacja Biblioteka venue in the historic building of the former Ruda Śląska-Chebzie railway station, where we shared the stage with Bel Canto youth choir from Rybnik and Sonata choir of the St Joseph parish church in Kalety-Jędrysek. After that, we gave the final performance of the night in front of the G. G. Gorczycki Music Academy at Piotr Niedurny St, where we had the most numerous and enthusiastic audience.
For those of you interested in the general vibe of our repertoire: we performed the audience-favourite (it’s our favourite, too!) Karma Chameleon (Culture Club), True Colors (Cyndi Lauper), which never fails to stir emotions, Dog Days Are Over (Florence + The Machine), which is a new addition that we’re still ironing out, the calming Mystery of Love (Sufjan Stevens) and the energetic Cykady na Cykladach (MAANAM).
The Choirs Night is an opportunity not only for singing together but also to spend quality time with each other, travel, and to meet other Polish choirs. The atmosphere of this event is one very close to our hearts because it’s the shared joy of choral singing. We will look back on this year’s edition with fond memories and we can’t wait for the next one!
